Omnielectric participates in the CAREBAT project to redefine the life of electric vehicle batteries with automation and digitization

Omnielectric participates in the CAREBAT project that seeks to develop an automated process to provide a second useful life to electric vehicle batteries. This development also involves the company NUTAI and the Automotive and Mobility Cluster of the Valencian Community -AVIA- as coordinators.

Objectives of the CAREBAT project

The CAREBAT project aims to carry out industrial research focused on advanced characterization and robotic disassembly of electric vehicle batteries, with the purpose of establishing a digitized circular management.

The fundamental purpose of this project is to develop an advanced process that allows the characterization and individualized selection of each battery, facilitating its disassembly and evaluating the feasibility of a second use for each of its components. This approach results in the reduction of waste destined for disposal, while promoting a second life for those elements that can be reused.

The ultimate goal is to design an automated and digitized industrial chain that defines the needs of the battery characterization process, in order to give them a second life. This design will incorporate data treatment and analysis technologies, as well as digital traceability, contributing to consolidate and strengthen the value chain associated with electric vehicles in the Valencian Community.

The final focus of the project seeks to ensure that electric vehicle batteries, at the end of their life in cars, can be reused in other devices or for other energy uses, thus minimizing the amount of waste sent to treatment centers.

During the development period of the project, which will conclude in April 2024, exhaustive analyses will be carried out regarding the legal aspects of the process and the condition of the waste derived from batteries will be evaluated. In addition, a market research plan covering both battery manufacturers and the technical specifications of discarded products is planned.
